Talkshow 24/7 — highlights assembled by a viewer

The premise

From election night 2008 through Groundhog Day 2009, I broadcast my life around the clock on Ustream. Interviews, meals, sleep. Everything became part of the show.

How it worked

VHS cameras covered the apartment. A laptop and mobile connection kept the feed going when I went outside. Friends dropped in at odd hours. Viewers watched and talked back through a live chat.

The catch

The original plan was to interview anyone who turned up, at any hour. My neighbors were less enthusiastic. After threats of eviction, I became my own regular guest.

The audience suggested things. I hitchhiked. I married a Styrofoam mountain in a ceremony directed by Jonathan Krisel. The boundary between the show and the rest of my life disappeared.

Impact

  • Three months broadcasting my life live, 24 hours a day, with a chatroom shaping the show, years before Twitch
  • Later exhibited at ARoS Museum in Denmark
