The premise

For five days, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., I sat at a desk opposite four industrial fans. The task was to make 1,000 drawings.

The catch

One hand held the paper down. The other drew. Let go, and the drawing flew. Hundreds of sheets were discarded; a selection went onto the walls.

In the room

The performance took place in a separate room at de boer gallery in Los Angeles, alongside an exhibition of my paintings. Four coffee machines ran beside me. The fans kept going. So did I.
